Update on FAA Cargo Shipment Rules
Oct. 15, 2001

As of  Friday, October 12, 2001 the FAA has revised it's known shipper restrictions again. The FAA has lifted this requirement for the shipment of live animals, but do require that all animals being shipped by an unknown shipper, must be removed from their carrier at the cargo office for inspection of empty carriers before the animal and crate will be accepted. I personally picked up a live animal shipment on the 13th, that was sent on Delta by an unknown shipper.

This was good news, but under the changing circumstances caused by terrorism, I would suspect that cargo shipping policies might undergo revisions again, so anyone contemplating shipping live animals who can qualify for a known shipper status is advised to being the process with the various airlines now.
