State Legislation
Summary of State Laws which regulate Possession of Wild Felines in Captivity
To better aid members who are contemplating the ownership or sale of wild felines, Lynn Culver, the Legal Affairs director, has compiled the following synopsis of state laws regulating ownership of native and exotic felines. Every effort has been made to ensure that this information is accurate, and appropriate contact information has been included for each state.
The LIOC-Endangered Species Conservation Federation strongly urges you contact the various state agencies personally, to verify that no new laws have been passed, before you proceed with any transactions. We cannot be held responsible should you fail to follow state laws. This is only a brief summary, offered as a service to our members. In many cases, the actual laws are quite long and involved. Also, many counties and cities have enacted regulations also, which means that even if the state law allows for the possession of wild felines, the county or city might have passed ordinances against such activities. Therefore you have to check with each agency before you proceed with ownership or sales.
If you find the information here to be incorrect, incomplete or out of date, please feel free to e-mail Lynn Culver at culvers@voltage.net. The information will be updated as it is made available.
